I just read the book No Way Up by Mary Connealy. It's the first in what will be a series, though I'm not sure how many more she plans to write. The ending definitely left a lot of room for the story to continue.
The basic plot is that three siblings grew up on a huge family ranch that their grandfather had started and had been murdered for and their father is intent on his children to desire to stay and continue the legacy. Two of the siblings have gone different directions away from the ranch while only one has stayed on. The father gets seriously injured in what turns out to not be an accident and because he isn't sure he'll live has his will read and enforced right away. The siblings need to stay on the ranch for a year or lose it all to a distant relative. They decide to stay and work together to uncover who was now trying to kill their father and if it was linked to their grandfather's death as well. There is a love interest that plays throughout the entire book and ends happily.
Overall I'd give this book a solid 3 stars. I liked it. It was interesting enough to keep reading but it wasn't a "I can't put it down" story for me. The author's writing style is okay, a bit too wordy and repetitive for me but not terrible. I would be mildly interested in reading the next book but could easily pass as well. It's a good book.
**I received this book from Bethany House publishers in exchange for an honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.**
