100 Favorite Bible Verses -Book Review

100 Favorite Bible Verses is a beautiful book. It is filled with lovely colorful florals and has a bible verse with a short thought to go along with it. I think it would be neat to go through the book and use it as a journaling prompt or as a scripture memory tool. This book would also make a very nice gift. I give this book a solid 5 stars.

Book Review- The Weekly Prayer Project

This book called the Weekly Prayer Project has a short scripture and coordinating thought in relation to it and then asks a question to reflect on and gives ample room to journal in the book itself. The book is divided up into different topics. The art work throughout is very pretty and it comes with a ribbon bookmark which I always appreciate. This book would make a really nice gift. I give it 4 stars.

Book Review

The NIV Kids Visual Study Bible is a wonderful resource Bible not only for kids but adults! I love this Bible as much as my kids do and it is filled to the brim with photos of the actual places and artifacts in the text. I love that it is easy to just leaf through and discover interesting facts as well as use it as a full study Bible. Highly recommend! Five stars.

NKJ Women's Study Bible- Book Review

The NKJ Women's Study Bible is a beautiful bible, with so many study resources throughout the entire book that you could use this for years and years. The bible cover is a gorgeous floral print in a fabric texture and has pink gilded page edges and ribbon bookmark. Such a beautiful bible to gift. I enjoy the NKJ version and highly recommend this bible for anyone who wants a great study bible or is looking for the perfect gift.

Five stars!

The Beautiful Word Devotional- Book Review

The Beautiful Word Devotional is a 365 day devotional hard back book. It has glossy pages and on each side of the right hand column there are lines to write notes in. On each side of the left hand column there is a scripture done in word art. I am surprised that in this type of book there is no ribbon bookmark, that would have been a nice addition.

The devotionals have the date at the top, a scripture verse, a short explanation or thought and ends with a short prayer. A very simple read to do each day. The devotionals are not very in depth but at least get your mind thinking about the chosen verse. I would say this book would make a very nice gift, especially to a new or young believer. I give this book 4 stars.

Promises For You Coloring Devotional- Book Review

The Faithgirlz Promises For You Devotional Coloring book is a very sweet, hard backed book. Perfect for a gift or to read and color along with your daughter like I am doing! We really enjoy the scripture at the beginning of each devotional and the little thought that goes along with it and the line drawings are fun and whimsical. I give this 5 stars!

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill- Book Review

The Inkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen is a very engaging book from the start. The story is well written and moves along nicely which I appreciate. The very beginning has a map of Ivy Hill which I always enjoy as it helps with the place reference as you read through the story. I enjoy the Regency flavor and writing and give it a solid 4 stars.

Zip It! - Book Review

The book Zip It, the keep it shut 40-day challenge by Karen Ehman is a great daily devotional to help get your words and thoughts better under control. I really like that this book is on the more practical side of how to actually practice the habit of speaking thoughtful words. Forty day is a good stretch of time to really keep this in the front of your mind and the way the book progresses is really good. I like that the daily readings aren't super long so I can fit them into my busy schedule. I give this book 5 stars and recommend it!

A Spectacle of Glory -Book Review

A Spectacle of Glory is a year long devotional by Joni Eareckson Tada. It's a small book which is nice because it's easy to carry with you and keep close. It has a ribbon book mark which I always appreciate. The devotions are one page each with a scripture reference at the top and a little story or explanation of the scripture and then closes with a prayer for the day. I like the briefness and the thoughts are encouraging and I like having a scripture reference to start with as you can always read more. This book would make a lovely gift, but I think I'll be keeping my copy. I give this book a full 5 stars.

The Way of the Dragon or the Way of the Lamb- Book Review

I have another book review to share today. This book is called The Way of the Dragon or the Way of the Lamb. It's written by two authors who share personal experiences in the struggle for power. I think overall this book takes an honest look at the struggle each of us faces in living this life, either by our own strength and slapping the word God on it, or being truly submitted to God and letting our pride die. A struggle for sure, especially in the church where so many are run as a business endeavor and not as extensions of Christ. I give this book a solid 4 stars.

Riley Unlikely- Book Review

I was interested to read the book Riley Unlikely as it's always fascinating to me to read stories of people who choose a different path for their life. This story is easy to read and engaging telling of a young girl, Riley, who follows the call she feels God has for her to go to Africa. It's an easy read and good for a wide age range of readers and is encouraging to do what God has called you to do even if that just means reaching out to your next door neighbor. I give this book 4 stars.

Devotions For A Deeper Life- Book Review

Devotions For A Deeper Life is a full of excerpts from Oswald Chambers. There is a short scripture on the top of each page, his thoughts and then a further suggested reading at the bottom of the page. I like the layout of the devotions. The devotions are dated, but not by year so you could go through the book each year if desired. It's a very pretty book and not too large and comes with a ribbon book mark which I always appreciate.  It would make a very nice gift. Overall I think the devotions give good food for thought and have a bit more substance than many devotional books out there. I give this book a solid 4 stars.

Falling Free- Book Review

Falling Free, Rescued from the life I always wanted by Shannan Martin is a very honest, no frills look at what living for the Kingdom looks like. She tells her story in a very easy, conversational way with so many good one liners and sections that my book is already heavily marked! She doesn't present her story as the only way you can submit to God's truth and change your focus from this life right now to the Kingdom that's coming but rather challenges you to consider all areas of your life and honestly assess just how many idols we really do keep set up and neatly dusted. I was so encouraged and challenged by this book! I highly recommend it and give it a resounding 5 stars!

Rhythms of Rest- Book Review

Rhythms of Rest by Shelly Miller is a look into finding ways to still your heart and change your focus even during the busiest of times. She writes in an easy way and includes lots of stories of others finding their way into Sabbath rest. The end of the book features questions to go along with each chapter called practical prompts and could be used in a group setting, but just as well individually. I think she presents some good insights and I appreciate the look at the value of making time to slow down and reflect even in a busy life. I give this book a solid 4 stars.

The Cottage- Book Review

The Cottage by Michael Phillips is the second book in the Secrets of the Shetlands. I have not read the first book, but nonetheless was able to dive right into this one. A very engaging, enjoyable story! I liked all the journal entries and I really appreciate the short chapters as I don't always have a lot of time to read but could at least squeeze in one or two on my busy days! I give this book a solid 4 stars and will keep an eye out for book 3.

66 Ways God Loves You- Book Review

The lovely little book called 66 Ways God Loves You by Jennifer Rothschild is a delight to look at and read. The book is so pretty with it's foiled hard back cover and pretty floral design. Inside the pages are the same design as the cover, but still so pretty to enjoy throughout the whole book. Each section starts with the name of the book in the Bible and one key truth which is expounded on with the focus always being how God shows His love for us.

This book would make a very beautiful gift, but I'm going to keep my copy as I very much enjoy reading the gentle reminders of God's great love for us. I give this book a solid 5 stars.

Star Struck- Book Review

I was very excited to review this book, Star Struck by Dr. David Bradstreet and Steve Rabey. The middle of the book has a very nice collection of color photographs of space which are really enjoyable to look at. Throughout the book are other black and white pictures. The writing style of the book is easy to follow and read, not a hard to read scientific work. I appreciate the work of scientists who are also believers and who work to uphold the accuracy of the Bible as a historical document. Unfortunately this is where I am sorely disappointed in the author's view and condescending tone towards believers who are informed and knowledgeable young earth proponents.  The author basically calls anyone who believes the earth is only thousands of years old an idiot and that "things have moved on." (Chapter 11 pg. 133) He ends the chapter saying a ridiculously contradictory statement, " And may we resist the temptation to baptize any particular cosmology or declare it the final word about how our Creator created." And yet, he has declared that unless we go along with the secular time frame of billions of years we are stupid.
Sadly I have to give this book only 1 star. I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone as such a foundational part of Biblical history is undermined.

Kid's Devotional Bible Review

The Kid's Devotional Bible is a very fun kid's bible. It has devotions for each day of the week and one for the weekend. There are fun line drawings that the kids could even color in with colored penciif desired. The devotions are short, but have good thoughts to spark conversation. With over 300 devotions this would be a great Bible to use with your kids for a year. My kids have enjoyed picking it up themselves and reading passages of interest and then continuing the conversation at dinner time. I give this kid's Bible five stars!

Greater Than Gold- Book Review

The book "Greater Than Gold" is the testimony of David Boudia and is a very moving and inspiring story. He tells his story of coming to Christ and all the things leading up to that and how it changed him. My favorite part of the book is at the end where he gives five summary points that he hopes the reader takes away from his story. With each he gives a scripture reference and encouragement. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading someone else's journey back into the arms we all belong in.

A solid 5 stars.

Today's Moment Of Truth- Book Review

The book Today's Moment Of Truth is a daily devotional book written by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittelberg. The devotions are brief, contain quite a bit of scripture references and provide very intelligent and interesting facts. I love reading a devotional and also learning something about the world I didn't know before. The writing style is to the point and doesn't talk down to the reader but assumes you are an intelligent person. Even my husband has been enjoying these devotionals and usually he is not one to read things like that!

I give this book a very enthusiastic 5stars. It is also a very pretty book and comes with an attached ribbon bookmark which is very nice for use and would make a lovely gift. I highly recommend!
